Tomorrow’s the day—Day 1 of Shorty’s Excellent Adventure. We’re looking at a 165-mile ride, and honestly, I can’t even remember the last time I did that kind of distance. Baja, maybe? I’ll admit—I’m a little nervous. Been working hard to rebuild strength and endurance, but still got a ways to go. Vertigo’s mostly under control, but my left leg’s acting up again and the right shoulder is making noise. Fingers crossed—tomorrow’s route is a mix of pavement and dirt roads, so hopefully nothing too wild to kick things off.
The Husky FE 501s is dialed in. Took her out for test runs yesterday and today—feeling solid. The G2 Throttle Tamer made a noticeable difference—smoother and more controllable, especially in tight stuff. I added the Tusk Excursion Rackless Luggage System with bottle carriers—got a couple Hydro Flasks and a full CamelBak, so hydration shouldn’t be an issue. The IMS tank gives me all the range I need.
Testing mirrors this time—Double Take Adventure on the left and a budget MZS Adventure on the right. We’ll see how they stack up.
Snacks and layers are packed in the Tusk bags. I barely notice them when riding, but getting off the bike? Whole different story. Caught my foot twice and almost dropped the Husky both times. Gotta get that dismount dialed in.
Navigation is covered—we’re running the Ride with GPS app for main routing, backed up with tracks on the Garmin Zumo XT2. Old phone’s mounted up front in offline mode—keeping the current phone out of harm’s way.
Early start tomorrow. If I survive and don’t end up face-first in a ditch, I’ll post an update after the ride. Wish me luck—this is gonna be one hell of a ride.
