Team Honda HRC’s Jett Lawrence secured an impressive victory in front of 52,961 fans at Ford Field in Detroit, becoming the first repeat-winner in the 2024 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Chase Sexton, the defending series champion, claimed second place by taking over the position on the opening lap and maintaining it throughout the 20-minute plus one lap Main Event. Ken Roczen of Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki battled back from a mid-pack start on the rutted track to secure the final spot on the podium.
Chase Sexton took over the championship points lead by a single point over Jett Lawrence after the Detroit round. Aaron Plessinger of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing now sits third in the standings, just one point behind Lawrence.
The Detroit round also marked the start of the Eastern Regional 250SX Class championship, where Austin Forkner of Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki secured a decisive win, earning his 13th Supercross victory and taking the points lead in the 9-round championship. The Main Event saw a first-turn pile-up, but Forkner, who was ahead of the chaos, dominated the race. Fire Power Honda’s Max Anstie battled his way to second place, while Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s rookie Daxton Bennick made an impressive debut, finishing third in his first pro Supercross race.
The series now heads back west for Round 6 inside State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, scheduled for February 10th, returning to night racing with the opening ceremonies commencing at 8:00 PM EST.
