The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Southern Arizona is initiating a new travel management plan, having conducted a route inventory that identified 1,250 miles of existing routes in the region. You can view the details of the project here. The BLM seeks public involvement to ensure no routes are overlooked and to gather feedback on the inventoried routes and their purposes. The project area, spanning over 700,000 acres, is situated southeast of Quartzite, along the Gila River, near the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge established to protect Bighorn Sheep. The area serves various purposes such as recreation, hunting, grazing, mineral exploration, and energy development. Comments on the plan will be accepted until February 21, 2024.
