I’ve been playing a lot with action cameras, mostly GoPro, lately. Specifically, I’ve been looking for cool ways to mount them on my dirt bike to get cool angles. I’ve been using mounts from RAM Mounts for year for my various GPS devices so it made sense to buy an adapter for my GoPro (seen on the left, in the below photo). Meanwhile I also had access to a JVC GC-XA1. It mounts using a standard tripod mount so I want to try some alternate mounts for it. I first tried the JVC Adixxion Handle Bar Mount ($17.95). It didn’t fit the bar diameter of my handlebars tight enough to stay put. I also tried the JVC Adixxion Roll Bar Mount ($21.95). It worked better, but still not real well for off-road use. Then came the Arkon Camera Bike Motorcycle Handlebar Mount (seen on the right below, $12.00). This, despite me being dubious, worked quite well.
Both mounts work quite well, you can check them both out in the above video. The both were easily adjustable and held their position well.
In part 2 I’ll look at some other camera angles and go into some detail on installing the mounts…
