HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (March 9, 2014) – The Daytona Supercross has been held each year at Daytona International Speedway since 1973. The Daytona stop of the AMA Supercross Championship is generally thought to be the most physically demanding round of the series, as the tracks are always tough and become even more challenging as the Florida sand breaks down throughout the event. Fox Sports One broadcast the racing live. A special feature on tires gave Justin Brayton and Jeremy Albrecht an opportunity to discuss the official tire of the team, Pirelli, with the broadcast audience.
As was the case in Atlanta the Toyota/Yamaha/JGRMX Team (with support from N-FAB and St. Lawrence Radiology) had three riders representing at a supercross event. Phillip Nicoletti joined Justin Brayton and Josh Grant on his number 38 YZ450F. Brayton and Nicoletti transferred to the main event from Semi One, Grant fell victim to a crash in Semi Two, but won the LCQ to make the main.
Brayton, Grant and Nicoletti started the main in 13th, 16th, and 10th, respectively. Nicoletti rode steady maintaining his top-10 position until lap six, when he gave up a place to fall back to 11th. By then Brayton had moved to 12th, with Grant 13th. At the halfway mark Brayton was 10th, Grant ninth, and Nicoletti 12th. When the checkers flew it was Brayton ninth, Grant 10th, and Nicoletti 13th. Brayton has finished within the top-10 at every round thus far in the series.
Round 11 of the 17-race series will see a return to Ford Field in Detroit, Mich. on March 15. Fox Sports One will broadcast the event at 11:00 p.m. (EST). Timed qualifying will stream live on supercrossonline.com beginning at 2:00 p.m. (EST). Phillip Nicoletti will return for the first ever New York supercross at MetLife Stadium on April 26.
