WR426F Petcock Rebuild

This afternoon I decided to take care of the petcock rebuild I have been planning. It was leaking pretty good, last time out. So, I figured I’d setup some cameras and document the moment. I know, not real exciting. But hey, I did it unscripted and totally on the fly in a single take! I also discovered a ton of crap in it. This could explain, in part, the multiple cleanings that the carburetor has required. Anyway, a pretty...

Project Resurrection: More Carburator Woes

So, after the maiden ride on the new suspension, I pulled the carb on ye ol’ WR426 again. It had been running pretty well (other than lack of idle) when I blew the fork seals, so I wondered what was up. Well, after dropping the bowl, I discovered a ton more green crap in the bowl. Yup, time for another clean out. When I picked it up from Santa Cruz Suspension, Rich did point out the all of the rubber venting in the gas cap had...

First Thoughts: WR426 Suspension Upgrades

I picked up the WR426 from Santa Cruz Suspension this last Wednesday and was able to take it our for a ride Thursday morning. Not related to the suspension at all, I’m still struggling with the carb issues. The bike will only start when it’s cold. We received sad word that one of our favorite up-and-coming young riders, Timmy Tibbets, was involved in a pretty nasty crash at the TNMX race at Portland International Raceway. According to a family member, “Another rider wrecked and his bike hit Tim in the stomach while Tim was in the air. Tim’s liver was cut in half from the force.” It sounds like his surgery went well, but there will be a followup surgery on...

RAM Mounts vs. Arkon (Part 1)

I’ve been playing a lot with action cameras, mostly GoPro, lately. Specifically, I’ve been looking for cool ways to mount them on my dirt bike to get cool angles. I’ve been using mounts from RAM Mounts for year for my various GPS devices so it made sense to buy an adapter for my GoPro (seen on the left, in the below photo). Meanwhile I also had access to a JVC GC-XA1. It mounts using a standard tripod mount so I want...
